The "problem" I perceive with Dave Y2K's input is it leaned heavily on the side of personal vitriolic attacks, insinuations and innuendo. I would agree this is not a forum for personal attacks. If Dave wants to personally degrade and insult someone, let him get their E-Mail address and correspond with them personally.

No one can deny that one if not the major problem facing our industry is the deep discounts we are "forced" to give in order to participate in the available business pool. That is the problem. Not David individually but people within this industry that embrace the philosphy that all we have to sell is a price and that all our customers are so unintelligent that the only thing we have to do is be the lowest price and all other concerns will be thrown out the window.

If we can educate members of this forum with intelligent discourse that possibly this "Order Taking" philosphy is damaging to all of us, including the salesperson whose income is decreased proportionately by the level of discount he extends and the number of services he gives away, that would be a great step in the right direction. Perhaps some good can come from that.

If we allow our input to be reduced to name calling and finger pointing, we are not doing anyone any good. From what I could gather of Dave's messages, I did not see him addressing the issues he raised, I simply saw him calling names, pointing fingers and making derogatory and insulting inferences about me and other people who shared my views and our businesses.

All of us "terrible greedy owners riding around in our chauffered Rolls Royces" :-) need to be aware that there are many people out there that embrace the "Sell Price Only" philosophy. It is my business decision as an owner not to participate in that particular philosophy if at all possible. As an owner, if you share my views to sell services, not prices you can start with your own sales force and hope and trust it catches on from there.

If it doesn't, then we must adapt And we will. We always have.
